recorded in dears home studio and mixed at nicolas vernhes rare book room studios in brooklyn, beams evokes a day-lit dreamworld at once strange and familiar. while the albums dancefloor-ready tempos, major keys, and sun-warmed synths signal beams as the lighter, brighter response to its predecessor, closer inspection reveals a squirming mass of oddball details. dears latest productions on beams creak and groan like anxious organisms, with slivers of guitar, electric bass, and drum kit darting in and out among the synths and samples. beams is the latest transmission from one of pop musics most fascinating creative minds. tour dates coming in nov and dec after recently performing live in may this year in select key cities.

a time machine appeared to us recently in a cloud of smoke and a giant portal of light. out of the portal a smoking piece of futuristic metal emerged and fell onto our floor. closer examination revealed it to be a time capsule sent from the future. a message from the year 2043, it contained diagrams of futuristic machines from what looks to have been the studio sessions of the recordings presented here. here is what we found, a 2 track ep (plus remixes) from artists from the future. recordings made 21 years from now but from artists who you may have already heard of today.

belgian producer, tim van de meutter, aka locked groove, returns to hotflush for a second ep following the success of januarys pivotal rooted release. keep it simple comprises three weighty examples of why the young producers unique fusion of big-room techno and moodier, deep-house elements has been resonating so loudly of late. central to the ep is simplicity itself, how simple structures create something larger than the sum of their parts as >keep running<, with its rattling percussion, acidic bass stabs and euphoric builds, flaunts to the full. >aller simple< adds swing to a similar palette that is as stripped-back as it is heavy-duty. force is replaced by introspection on vinyl-closer, >even< – an inebriated voice reverberates over whispered organs and an understated groove.

fur the texan, born bryce isbell, extracts minutiae with precision. his compositions, while airily sparse, are saturated with details plucked from broad of landscapes, whether they resemble the texan prairie or the expanses of industrial germany. isbells composite micro-samples are infinitesimal, soaked in breathless allusion and divorced from their context. the crisp, insistently percussive arrangement oscillates like metal shavings manipulated by an unseen magnet. fur has untraditionally tapped into a eu techno mind-meld, a berlin thought-stream. after his early work with neon indian’s alan palomo as ghost hustler, isbell dove deep into minimal sounds that transported listeners closer to inner city detroit than the mid-west. unos first fur ep cocoon follows several years of isbell silence. after a notable debut with lefse, fur submerged below a sea of techno and came up with a deep analog style that has acquired fans in fred p and firecracker records with twisting house like >knots<. a second part in the fur saga on the way, uno has faith this young westerner will be putting a big texan stamp on the house scene to come.

as we all know, there is a first time for everything. in this case, its even a debut for both: the tensnake co-run label mirau and iron curtis.

as hot as ever the new ep from our siberian disco friends is finally landing into theomatic’s catalogue. the title track solar wind is a rhodes driven hands-in-the-air early night anthem: simple yet powerful, just the way we like it! the flipside features an offbeat cosmic number “planetarium” which sounds like a perfect soundtrack for some colourful sci-fi cartoon about the early years of space exploration, with all those rockets, flying saucers, stars and comets with long tails. the bonus track (available as a digital download only) is named after the soviet moon exploration robot vehicle lunokhod 2 (’moon walker’ in russian) which was sent to the moon in 1973. being rather minimalistic at the begining it slowly evolves and reaches its apogee closer to the end with calm and beautiful melody which leaves the listener in a peaceful mood

matador is a dublin based dj,live performer and producer who has been releasing his own twisted but organic take on techno for the last four years. late last year came the huge kingswing ep on minus and now this spooks ep sees him step-up once again for a 5 track outing which balances his usual melody with a real techno drive. the title track opens proceedings with predatory, roughshod bass tone running underneath blippy melodies, snappy house influenced percussion and a dark male vocal where kenekt is all out sci-fi weirdness.spiralling space ships, undulating basslines and plenty of well-defined percussion all add up to a snaking track that really works its way under your skin.on the flip,b1 bambam is the most heads down and streamlined techno offering of them all before klay is the ep closer which manages to bend and drip little melodic droplets down the face of slinky hi-hats and deep,rolling basslines.

title track -dust- launches the ep into an immediately throbbing groove, rung through with the dissonant clangs of the genre s cold, machine-obsessed heritage. this hydraulic homage is succeeded by -overshadow- —a closer inspection of techno s cogs and wheels that sees volkov tinkering with its parts over 9 minutes of cumulative atmospherics. endless—the new collaboration between alistair wells aka perc and giorgio gili, based on speedy j s electric deluxe label—offers a hypnotic remix from their pooled influences of brian eno, byetone, robert henke, irdial and ifach. here volkov s dark and growling slow-burner is stepped up into an octane workout, dressed with gili s minimalistic traits and seasoned with a spot of perc-style abrasiveness. -corner- is dust ep s provocative closer. driven by anxious, incessant hats and syncopated hisses it uses suspended melodic morsels to work itself into a beguiling anti-climax that leaves you begging for more.

seahawks >invisible sunrise< album was a great closer for 2011 and featured in many of the choice end of year charts. to celebrate seahawks are releasing 2 remixes by 2 of their favourite musical magicians - dr dunk and gatto fritto.

the second edition of the mosso series adheres to its archetypal plan, as alejandro mosso leads us forwards on his musical trek and through the grooves carved onto this record. for this new number, alejandro mosso decided to delve back into his archives and take a closer listen to some forgotten, unfinished pieces. some listeners will surely recognise certain bits of this record as they were part of mossos live performance years ago. this is however the first time they will be edited and see the light of day. on the a-side, aconcagua is a festive theme on which a magnetic marimba riff turns into an escalating melody, surrounded by a forest of ascending percussions - characteristic of mossos production – lightly floating around it. cashmere, the flip, was conceived while airborne on a flying carpet, half way above the indian subcontinent and below the countles gleaming stars. perfect instance of alejandro mossos talent, it is a subtle blend of hovering winds and crystallized textures. the bansuri flute and the clave go hand in hand to form reassuring horizons, the soundtrack for a longer moment of hope, greater perspective and spiritual transformation.

two collaborations between two highly respected producers. photeks >closer< marked the 50th release on pinchs tectonic last year, and some time in the studio together has produced these standout tracks. acid reign first appeared in january on pinchs fabriclive mix compilation, his dubplate version described by fact mag as >a slow-burning half-stepper with a twisted acid melody fighting for air in an oil spill, as claustrophobic as you like, basically<. m25fm appears on photeks instalment to the highly respected dj kicks compilation series, its another acid-tinged track, taking us into much deeper territory.

long waited 4th ep from japanese deep house force pan records is here. unlike precious releases, this is volume 1 of its various artist sampler series. all 3 of them are scheduled to be released in 2012. first track to open the series is >flash back< by sai. this japanese producer has been favored and debuted from morris audio in 2010. the track has dreamy and floating feel to start off with, later it gets more grove going with subtle vocal goes behind. stays musical yet feels minimal, a2 also kept the vibe from a1 and makes you stay in the dreamland. it is by only the non-japanese artist on this wax, dennis uprock aka resoe from denmark. he is the owner of baum records and one half of the duo >pattern repeat< and this rather timeless track exactly demonstrated his years of experience in producing. >future progress<, is true and honest to its name. dj pi-ge is one of the owner of the label along side of ryo murakami and sisi. he provides a track with punchy synth and revered black man’s vocal. notably slow teasing build up from the beginning till the end, this is an interesting addition to the ep. attention grabbing. last of all, >rising moon< is by tokyo based artist naoki shinohara, previously released from xdbs metrolux music. this track can be described by strong hart beat like hi hats and soul filling melody. its a perfect closer to this quality deep house ep from the land of rising sun.

the londinium ep is the latest release on uzuri recordings and welcomes chicago skyway back to the fold. not that hes been away too long, having produced a full 12 release and contributed to the from chicago turin amsterdam & dublin with love ep just last year. we also welcome hakim murphy to the label – with his credentials it was only a matter of time before our paths crossed!as the title suggests, this release was inspired, conceptually at least, by our nations capital, and its apparent that sean has spent quite enough time here to get the gist of the place, with the b-side tracks entitled traffic and noise, respectively. im sure he loves it here, really.musically, he keeps it closer to his windy city heart – very clearly reflecting his roots, in fact. as a dj and club promoter in mid 90s chicago, sean frequently shared the decks with some of the citys biggest talents at that time – cajmere, gene farris and spencer kinsey (gemini) among them, and one could say that theres an audible relief flavour to a-side, london streets, with its stripped-back, hypnotic stomp. its fitting that hakim murphy remixes the track, coming from similar roots within chicagos scene, and his own reworking retains the drawn-out essence of the original but brings a whole new hips-and-shoulders groove to the track.

frucht - only deals with fresh fruits. now the berlin based collective comes up with 4 fresh >best-of-remixes< including well-known techno artists of their closer family. labelhead coeter one and his partner splatter present a smart and straight minimal-heavy-weight. the a-side begins with pure minimal power and ends in complex structures for the floor. on the >fruit side< you can find 2 more clubbombs that show the typical mad sound of frucht. keep an eye on this network of succesful talents!

norm talley tackles techno. yes, you heard that right… in spite of 3 tracks on the original transmissions that fell a little closer to what the heads would expect from a very reliable source, it was that first one that everyone begged for more of. we must agree that those 3 minutes were just a little of a tease, so here is the full 9-minute extended cut of “man on the moon” that all of you asked for, and what a trip it is! certainly funky broken-beat techno is a new look for norm, but it’s pretty obvious in all 9 of the minutes here that this is a man from detroit making the music he knows best. there’s a groove and a touch here that speaks of soul and experience… although you may find this one in the crates of some of the new school techno elite, it’s safe to say they couldn’t have made it the way norm talley did. even if you remember part one you may be surprised where he takes it, but we’re even more pleased to say that “earth 2 moon” beats it at its own game. this one made our necks snap and heads turn the very first time.

enter the purple maze again with three subtle techno tracks from yør.after some challenging an experimental offerings last time out, secretive musicos purple maze are to release their second offering, the rave ep, in december 2011. it comes from equally low-key producer yor, and is a release that operates a little closer to the dancefloor than maze 001.

with their new label rauh (german for raw), the duo session restore provides the evidence, that contemporary forms of techno and dubtechno link to harsh, dry and loopy patterns and thereby follow the tradition of techno. on closer listening though it reveals music of fine arts with melodic parts and hypnotically notes, which omit any form of gaudiness. rauh is tradition of electronic music with a new livery. there will only be exclusive tracks of the duo, rounded up by remixes of other emerging artists.

what do you call musicians like com truise? he seems easy enough to pin down—throw out some words like nostalgia, synth-wave, eighties, and electro-funk and you will scrape by—but to be truly insightful about his music is tough, because art that is so blatantly referencing certain things in a certain way while also making them weird and new and unique is confusing. how do you classify something that is so obviously both vintage and current but is too fun to call postmodern? awesome is an option. especially when it sounds like you are driving the knight rider car through thick clouds of nitrous oxide, like >fairlight<, the title track from truises new single, which previously appeared on an iso50 comp called dry waves and also has this jarring, falling-all-over-itself middle section that prevents you from trancing out too hard. >beta eyes<, the track that follows, is even more restless, with a drum pattern that is fidgety and clustered, kicks and snares fighting each other like two drum and bass heads arguing over an atari remote. >polyhurt<, a narcotic, almost ballad-like closer that inevitably leaves you thinking, >now, how the hell am i going to describe that to someone?< the vinyl exclusive cut >colorvision< could be truises most dancefloor friendly track yet.

container is a recent moniker of nashville, tennessee resident ren schofield who has been actively shifting about the u.s. playing shows and releasing cassettes on his mysterious i just live here imprint for a long while now. known primarily for his god willing project, a disjointed, confusing, maze of crude oscillator, tape, and guitar, ren has established himself as a staple in the east coast underground.
here we have a new experiment in electronic beat oriented music. this is no standard fare, however. it glows with a vision all its own, completely isolated and separate making it difficult to place in the awkward world of the genre. the sounds are a thick stew congealing new ideas and naive experiments into something in the ballpark of the new super weird wolfgang voigt 12 inches, abstract and minimal in nature with time stopping tendencies. take those 12 inches and send them thru the garbage can, tape loop, reel to reel experiments of ake hodells >220 volt buddha< or that weird track with lawnmower by charles amirkhanian on the first slowscan volume and we might be getting closer.

having just celebrated its 50th release with photeks >closer< 12 inch, tectonic moves straight into bold new territories, introducing a new artist to the label: namely distal from atlanta, usa. his approach to music production is refreshingly dynamic and eclectic, taking elements of the familiar and making it sound obscure while injecting plenty of energy and dancefloor savvy throughout his productions. this first single for tectonic brings together two very contrasting pieces of music, both in terms of tempo and attitude.

after the last release for ec and paul ritchs quartz label, michel de hey and m.i.r.k.o. are back on hey! joining the forces are none less than rodriguez jr and juan sanchez. after a great summer for michel with his hey! events in clubs, beaches and festivals, it was time to deliver that vibe to the label again. with this new ep that mission is easily accomplished. the original tracks are typical for michel, tough but funky and made for the dancefloor. all tracks have proven their value at numerous nights, with >give me a light< as an anthem for (the now closed) catwalk in rotterdam, whilst the original version of >waiting and waiting< has proven to be a great closer to his festival sets.

hotflush presents its fifth release from rising producer sigha. this ep continues his progression into subterranean techno hauntings. since his debut on the imprint in early 2009, sigha has accumulated support from djs across the electronic sphere such as francois k, brendon moeller, marcel dettmann, ben klock, peter van hoesen, james ruskin, and many others. with this release he takes a more direct approach that maintains the cavernous atmosphere and spatial tension of his previous work on hotflush and his own label our circula sound, resulting in a collection of club tracks that evolve and sizzle with burning tenacity, ultimately bursting into the beatless closer that echoes about in an otherworldly space.

black gold also contains a rendition of sandy denny s who knows where the time goes, in a minimalist arrangement that ends in an uplifting orchestration true to both the writer of the song and the performer. throughout the entire performance ms simone keeps a regal, aloof and sometimes goofy composure, her monologues in between songs ushering the listener a little closer to her moving performance.

in 2009 the internationally acclaimed german director tom tykwer (perfume, run lola run, the international) supervised a film project in kenyas largest township kibera together with his wife marie steinmann. they put together a team of international film pros that each mentored one film student and helped them put together the movie soul boy. a story about a boy who has to go on a journey to rescue his fathers soul from a mysterious voodoo women.
the result of xavers score is a percussive journey reminiscent of minimal music from the 60s paired with african vibes but completely void of world music cliches. its closer to krautrock and steve reich than to the commonly shallow perception of indigenous music by first world movie directors. full of odd sounding kalimbas and plucky guitars, backed by heavy orchestral drumming and floating e-bows.

after the big succes of hi tech booty, we searched for some really special guys out there to put hand on ahmets bomb. well here it is. a1 comes from maetrik which was a strong desire of ahmet and for sure an excellent choice. he totally brings in his own style while getting a little bit closer to the darkside of the track. a2 is a special collab between rainer, which we know from the last regular stock5 record together with cesare vs disorder and viudez, a mexican guy that seems to have a very nice influence to the production style. the vocal is very present but placed, arranged and transformed geniously. for sure a weapon! b1 is written by our special friend chris sylvester aka inxec. starting with a very housy groove, it falls quickly into a hypnotic mood that is unique in inxec productions. he really knows what the dancefloor requires and for this we are very happy to have him again in our release roster. b2 presents a very new and fresh artist called rico casazza. he interprets the track in a very detroit way, works verz little with the vocal but hits it very perfectly for the sense of the track. after this debut on our imprint you can be sure to hear more of this young guy in the next time!!!
